Moshe Sharon wrote that Judaism, centers on national salvation -- not just a nation that wants to have a state, but a nation that wants to serve God. He also wrote that the New Testament moves us toward personal salvation. Islam on the other hand is focused on world conquest.
Mark Christian is the President and Executive Director of the Global Faith Institute. He is the son and nephew of high ranking leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in his home country of Egypt. He left Islam and converted to Christianity. He said the following regarding the difference between Islam and Christianity.

Egyptian Coptic Christian attorney and human rights activist Wagih Yacoub, said the Bilal ibn Rabah mosque in the Cairo suburb of Moqattam serves as a Muslim Brotherhood-approved torture chamber.
Christianity does have a history of torturing infidels however, and inquisitions reached as far from Spain as Goa and Panama.
There are those who say that it is unfair to criticize Islam because the Bible of the Christians and Jews has passages promoting violence. These passages certainly exist but the existence of those passages in no way makes Islam any less bad. That logic is like the logic of a little boy justifying hitting someone by saying that another little boy did as well. It is worthwhile however to be aware of the bad passages in the bible. The New Testament passages are discussed on the Negative Aspects of Christianity page of this web site and the old Testament passages are discussed below.
In Exodus 22:20 the Jews were commanded that any Jew who
sacrificeth unto any god, save unto Jehovah only, shall be utterly destroyed.
According to Chronicles 2, the Jews of Judah (15:12-13)
entered into the covenant to seek Jehovah, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul; and that whosoever would not seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
Deuteronomy for example, starts with:
7:1When Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before thee, the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; 7:2and when Jehovah thy God shall deliver them up before thee, and thou shalt smite them; then thou shalt utterly destroy them: thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them; 7:3neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. 7:4For he will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you, and he will destroy thee quickly. 7:5But thus shall ye deal with them: ye shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire.
Deuteronomy 13:13 states
 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you,
and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve
other gods, which ye have not known;
 Then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;
 Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.
 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

In 1 Samuel 15:3 Samuel quotes God saying
Now go, attack Amalek and proscribe all that belongs to him. Spare no one, but kill alike men and women, infants and sucklings, oxen and sheeps, camels and asses.
Numbers 31:1-18 says:
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people. And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the Lord of Midian. Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war. So there were delivered out of thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand. And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males. And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword. But of the cities of these peoples which Yahweh your God gives you as an inheritance, you shall let nothing that breathes remain alive, but you shall utterly destroy them—the Hittite, Amorite, Canaanite, Perizzite, Hivite, and Jebusite—just as Yahweh your God has commanded you, lest they teach you to do according to all their abominations which they have done for their gods, and you sin against Yahweh your God.
So Joshua [Moses’ successor] conquered all the land: the mountain country and the South and the lowland and the wilderness slopes, and all their kings; he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Yahweh God of Israel had commanded.
18:22 Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.
20:13 If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
There are more intolerant quotes in the old and new Testament that are listed on the web pages, Intolerance and the Bible, and BibleGod and The Skeptics Annotated Bible.Raymond Ibrahim, in an article titled Is Islam Worse Than Other Religions wrote:
Regardless, all the historic violence committed by the Hebrews and recorded in the Old Testament is just that—history. It happened; God commanded it. But it revolved around a specific time and place and was directed against a specific people. At no time did such violence go on to become standardized or codified into Jewish law (i.e. the Halakha).This is where Islamic violence is unique. Though similar to the violence of the Old Testament—commanded by God and manifested in history—certain aspects of Islamic violence have become standardized in Islamic law (i.e. the Sharia) and apply at all times....
At no time did Yahweh give an open-ended command for the Hebrews, and by extension their descendants the Jews, to fight and kill gentiles. On the other hand, though Islam’s original enemies were, like Judaism’s, historical (e.g. Christian Byzantines and pagan Persians), the Koran rarely singles them out by their proper names. Instead, Muslims were (and are) commanded to fight the people of the book—“until they pay tribute with willing submission and feel themselves utterly subdued” (9:29) and to “slay the pagans wherever you find them” (9:5). The two conjunctions “until” and “wherever” demonstrate the perpetual nature of these commandments: there are still “people of the book” who have yet to be “utterly subdued” (especially in the Americas, Europe, and Israel) and “pagans” to be slain “wherever” one looks (especially Asia and sub-Saharan Africa).
Christianity historically had legislation similar to the Muslim command to keep the subjected Jew in inferior status. In the fifth century Augustine said that the Jews should be preserved but in misery and when Christians weren't killing Jews it was generally because they were following his doctrine.
Christianity also shared the concept with Islam that those who killed the infidel would go to heaven. The Crusaders believed that the more Jews they killed the more likely they would get into heaven. (William Nicholls, Christian Antisemitism, A History of Hate)
One could argue that when the Hebrews conquered the Caananites to establish Israel, they were engaged in just as much a Jihad as the Muslims who conquered them hundreds of years later. Moses command to have no mercy on the inhabitants of Canaan is as ruthless as any command made by Muhammad.
Since Jews and Christians have intolerant quotes in their holy books and since they are a lot of tolerant Jews and Christians that raises the question of whether there can be tolerant Muslims even though they have intolerant quotes in their holy books. Another question that comes to mind is whether Judaism and Christianity are just as bad as Islam. There are those who think it's wrong to criticize the religion of others, in that case if it's wrong to criticize Judaism and Christianity that have these intolerant quotes is it not just as wrong to criticize Islam.
The existence of these quotes does not mean that it is wrong to criticize Islam, the existence of these quotes mean that Christianity and Judaism should be criticized as well. The intolerance toward Jews that is taught in the New Testament has led to a long history of horrific persecution of the Jews and the climate of anti-Jewish hate it created was a factor in the Holocaust. In current times hatred of the Jews still arises from Christian doctrine although there are different Christian doctrines and there are Christian groups who actually love Israel and support the Jews. One does not see this among the Muslims. The influx of Muslims into Christian countries has led to a hatred of the Jew fueled by the intolerance of both religions. Unlike the Koran, the Old and New Testaments, do not command Jews or Christians to subjugate, and humiliate non-Jews and do not command Jews and Christians to fight all non-subjugated non-believers until they are either all subjugated or they all believe. In addition in modern times Jews and Christians as a whole are anti-violence. The modern Christian and Jews have a benevolent layer of interpretation in their religion that the Muslims do not have.
Dr. Danusha Goska in an interview with Mark Tapson said:
I grew up, and currently live, in Passaic County, New Jersey, which is said to have the second largest Muslim population in the U.S. I grew up with Arabs and with Muslims. I have had Muslim friends, boyfriends, bosses, coworkers, and students. I love many Muslims. I feel for them the kind of love you feel for any close friend. When I was a girl, one day a Muslim friend turned to me and said, “When the time for jihad comes, if you don’t accept Islam, I will have to kill you.”
The simple truth is that Islam is different from the other world belief systems: Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. None of these includes anything like the call to jihad. Islam does.

Robert Spencer pointed this out in a criticism of Dinesh Sousa's book The Enemy at Home. Robert Spencer wrote:
He notes that “Islam is notorious for the harshness of some of its punishments, such as cutting off the arms and legs of thieves, flogging adulterers, and executing drug dealers.” However, “in this respect one may say, with only a hint of irony, that Muslims are in the Old Testament tradition.” He does not explain, however, why, if that were true, no Jews and Christians are cutting off the arms and legs of thieves or flogging adulterers today – in other words, he completely bypasses the interpretative traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam in order to make the crudest of moral equivalence arguments. Nor does he inform the reader that in fact the Old Testament says nothing whatsoever about cutting off arms and legs of thieves – in fact, the “eye for an eye” provision had already moved beyond the barbarism of such punishments.
A basic commandment of Christianity is "Love thine enemies" whereas hatred of the infidel no matter how friendly he is, is currently spread by those who practice Wahabi Islam, such as the Saudis. The Koran commands all Muslims (not just Wahabis) (5:51):
O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.
Jews in Israel, who have the military power to massacre Muslim communities from which Muslim terrorists attack them, do not, often at considerable risk to themselves, an example of this was the Israeli fight with terrorists in Jenin. In contrast Palestinian Muslims are encouraged from childhood to murder Israelis. The majority of Jews and Christians are good peace loving people. These Jews and Christians interpret their religion in a benevolent way.
Many religions instill an obligation in their members to proselytize.
As far as I know that does not involve the use of force. The renowned Muslim
historian and philosopher Ibn Khaldun (d. 1406) said that:
In the Muslim community, jihad is a religious duty because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and the obligation to convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force... Islam is under obligation to gain power over other nations.
Andrew Bostom, in his article The Religion of Peace? argues that there are major differences between Islam and Judaism. For one thing Jihad is central to Islam, Islam revolves around Jihad. For another he writes:
The Old Testament sanctions the Israelites conquest of Canaan—a limited domain—it does not sanction a permanent war to submit all the nations of humanity to a uniform code of religious law. Similarly, the tactics of warfare are described in the Old Testament, unlike the Koran, in very circumscribed and specific contexts. Moreover, while the Old Testament clearly condemns certain inhumane practices of paganism, it never invoked an eternal war against all of the world’s pagan peoples.
If it is incorrect to conclude that all Jews and Christians are bad because of their scriptures than isn't it unfair to conclude the same thing about Muslims? I think the answer is yes it is unfair to judge all Moslems as bad on the basis of Islamic religious scripture since some of them too have a benevolent interpretation of their faith. However, in modern times, a lot more violence is committed in the name of Islam than in the name of other religions and that is undoubtedly the result of Islam as I discuss in the Islamic Roots of Violence section of this web site.
Muslims on a whole carry out the negative parts of their scriptures. In a debate about Islam and women (frontpage magazine 12/30/04) the Muslim debaters pointed out that according to Judaism and Christianity
if a wife entices her husband to worship other than God, then he should stone her to death (Deuteronomy 13:7-12).
They also argued that the verse against wife beating meant a gentle tap as with a toothbrush. Spencer responded that
So while women are being abused all over the Islamic world, we are being asked not to notice, and instead to tut-tut over a verse of the Bible that no Christian or Jew is putting into practice today. I wish I could say that no Muslim is putting 4:34 into practice today, or that they were all using toothbrushes to beat their wives, but I cant.
Karen Armstrong, an apologist for Islam, argued that , “the Qur’an has its share of aggressive texts, but like all the great religions, its main thrust is towards kindliness and compassion. Islamic law outlaws war against any country in which Muslims are allowed to practice their religion freely, and forbids the use of fire, the destruction of buildings and the killing of innocent civilians in a military campaign.”

But the problem within Islam is not that of a few aggressive texts in the Qur’an, parallel to a few in the Bible. In the Bible there are indeed aggressive texts, but there is no open-ended and universal command to all believers to make war against unbelievers, a la Qur’an 9:29. Nor is that an isolated text: Islam, unlike Christianity, has a developed doctrine sanctioning and calling for this warfare. The Shafi’i manual Reliance of the Traveller, which bears the endorsement of Sunni Islam’s most respected authority,
Al-Azhar Universityin , stipulates that jihad is “a communal obligation” to “war against non-Muslims.” It teaches that “the caliph makes war upon Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians…until they become Muslim or else pay the non-Muslim poll tax . . . The caliph fights all other peoples until they become Muslim” (o9.0, o9.1, o9.8, and o9.9). This is one reason why jihad terrorists like Osama bin Laden want so badly to restore the caliphate – so that such a jihad can be pursued. There is no doctrine like this in any other major religion. Cairo
Also, look closely at Armstrong’s wording: “Islamic law outlaws war against any country in which Muslims are allowed to practice their religion freely.” This is similar to a fatwa of Mufti Ebrahim Desai of South Africa: “if a country doesn’t allow the propagation of Islam to its inhabitants in a suitable manner or creates hindrances to this, then the Muslim ruler would be justifying in waging Jihad against this country, so that the message of Islam can reach its inhabitants, thus saving them from the Fire of Jahannum [hell]. If the Kuffaar [unbelievers] allow us to spread Islam peacefully, then we would not wage Jihad against them.” A central part of the Islamic religion traditionally has been its prescriptions for governance. Would opposition to Sharia be hindering Muslims from practicing their religion freely? The problem with such statements -- both Armstrong’s and Desai’s -- is that they are so elastic as to be meaningless in terms of restricting Muslims from waging war. The “
is waging war on Islam” rhetoric coming today from jihadists is a case in point. They assert that America is waging war on Islam, despite President Bush’s strenuous efforts to establish the contrary, and thus justify waging war against us. America
Likewise Armstrong’s statement that “Islamic law...forbids the use of fire, the destruction of buildings and the killing of innocent civilians in a military campaign.” Innocent civilians. Were the office workers in the
innocent? Osama says no. Can Armstrong refute him on Islamic grounds? If not, then what is the value of making such an assertion in the first place? World Trade Center
Armstrong continues with another common canard: “We rarely, if ever, called the IRA bombings ‘Catholic’ terrorism because we knew enough to realize that this was not essentially a religious campaign. Indeed, like the Irish republican movement, many fundamentalist movements worldwide are simply new forms of nationalism in a highly unorthodox religious guise. This is obviously the case with Zionist fundamentalism in
Israeland the fervently patriotic Christian right in the .” It is true that the IRA’s was not essentially a religious campaign. The IRA was not claiming to blow things up in the name of their religion or justifying their actions by reference to Christian scripture. The jihad terrorists today, however, explain that they are acting in the name of Islam, and quote Qur’an copiously. Nor was the IRA an international movement with a program calling for the subjugation the world under its system of law and societal mores. Islamic terrorism is. US
The Muslim scholar Ibn Khaldun, who died in 1406, wrote:
“In the Muslim community, the holy war is a religious duty because of the universalism of the mission and (the obligation to) convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force. The other religious groups did not have a universal mission, and the holy war was not a religious duty for them, save only for purposes of defense.”
Only Islam, Ibn Khaldun added,
“is under obligation to gain power over other nations.” (The Muqudimmah, vol. 1 pg. 473)
Robert Spencer in an interview with Jamie Glazov explained one of the key differences between Christianity and Islam (frontpagemag 11/2/2006). He said:
In Christianity, vengeance belongs to God only: "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord; I will repay" (Romans 12:19). But in Islam, the faithful are commanded to take revenge, for Allah will repay the offenders by means of the Muslim warriors: "Will ye not fight people who violated their oaths, plotted to expel the Messenger, and took the aggressive by being the first (to assault) you? Fight them, and Allah will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame" (Qur'an 9:13-14).
Much of Islam instead of having a beneficent layer of interpretation surrounding their core texts has a very hostile one. This is one of the key flaws in the argument that we shouldn't judge Islam in a negative way because other religions also have intolerant statements in their core texts. In the case of Islam Moslems believe and act on those statements whereas in the case of religions such as Judaism, interpretation puts a shield of tolerance around those statements. Daniel Brumberg pointed out in the Journal of Democracy (October 2002) that liberal Islam "constitutes a limited intellectual trend that has thus far not sunk organizational roots in Arab societies." Islamist thought, as Max Rodenbeck has noted has not gone beyond denunciations of heresy and repetitions of formulas from the Koran. In 2003 at Mecca, millions of Muslim pilgrims concluded the annual Haj with repeated chants of "Murder the Jews" and "Death to America" (Outpost 4/03).
It is very unlikely that one would hear a Jewish or Christian broadcast that says "Spare no one, but kill alike men and women, infants and sucklings, oxen and sheeps, camels and asses."
If however, one is listening to Palestinian TV it is very likely to hear (PA TV: Killing of Jews is Mandatory, Israel National News, 12/28/04) "Mohammed said in his Hadith: The Hour [Day of Resurrection] will not arrive until you fight the Jews, [until a Jew will hide behind a rock or tree] and the rock and the tree will say: Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!'."
Jamie Glazov in Frontpage Magazine said:
There is nothing analogous among Christians and Jews to the hate-filled sermons that are preached weekly in the Islamic world. The New and Old Testaments contain no universal, open-ended command to all believers to wage war against all unbelievers, as does the Qur'an in Suras such as 9:29 and 9:5.
It is very unlikely that a Christian or Jew will be killed by other members of their faith for changing his or her religion. However, the few Muslims who dare to leave the religion or even become less religious are at risk one example being Hatin Surucu (Berlin's Honor Killings, 3/2/05 frontpagemag.com). Sürücü grew up in Berlin and was married off at 16 to a cousin in Istanbul. After a few years, she returned to the German capital with her young son, moved into a home for single mothers, completed school and began to train as an electrician. She stopped wearing a headscarf and was said to be outgoing and vivacious. On Feb. 7, 2005, 23-year-old Hatin Sürücü was gunned down at a bus stop. She died on the spot. Shortly afterwards, three of her brothers -- who reportedly had long been threatening her -- were arrested. Investigators suspect it was a so-called "honor killing," given the fact that Sürücü's ultra-conservative Turkish-Kurdish family strongly disapproved of her modern and "un-Islamic" life.
Days after Hatin Sürücü was killed, some male students of Turkish origin at a high school near the scene of the crime reportedly downplayed the act. During a class discussion on the murder, one said, "She (Hatin Sürücü) only had herself to blame," while another remarked "She deserved what she got --the whore lived like a German."

The question put to these Islamic leaders was:
"Now that I am Muslim, can I keep my non-Muslim friends that I have known all my life?"
Their answer was
"You should try to remain away from mixing with non-Muslims because mixing with them removes your religious zealousness and pride from your heart and may lead you to having love and compassion in your heart for them. .it is obligatory upon a Muslim to be free of the people of infidelity and to hate them for the sake of Allah.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Baz, vice chancellor the Islamic University of Medina said:
According to the Koran, the Sunnah, and the consensus of Muslims it is a requirement of the Muslims to be hostile to the Jews and the Christians and other mushrikun [polytheists],
Bin Baz added that various verses in the Qur'an prove
"with absolute clarity that there is a religious requirement to despise the infidel Jews and Christians and other mushrikun."
A sign that Bin Baz's statements are acceptable to the Saudis is that he was appointed in 1974 to be president of the Directorate of Religious Research in Saudi Arabia.
John Quincy Adams, elected president of the United States in 1928? wrote about the contrast between Christianity and Islam as follows:
On the Christian system of morals, man is an immortal spirit, confined for a short space of time, in an earthly tabernacle. Kindness to his fellow mortals embraces the whole compass of his duties on earth, and the whole promise of his happiness to his spirit hereafter. THE ESSENCE OF THIS DOCTRINE IS, TO EXALT THE SPIRITUAL OVER THE BRUTAL PART OF HIS NATURE.

Daniel Pipes in an interview with the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, explained the difference between the intolerance of Islam and other religions in an article titled "The End of American Jewry's Golden Era" (5/2/04) as follows:
Militant Islam cannot be compared to any segment of Christianity, Judaism, or Hinduism. These religions do not embody groups with totalitarian utopian ideologies that seek world hegemony. In fact, militant Islam resembles fascism and communism more than any religious movement.
Pim Fortuyn the Dutch politician murdered for opposing Muslim immigration to Holland (Pim Fortuyn's Murderer Revealed as Immigration Enthusiast, Vdare) said that:
Christianity and Judaism have gone through the laundromat of humanism and enlightenment but that isn't the case of Islam.
A couple of days after Daesh (ISIS) burned a Jordanian alive Obama told Christians at the National Prayer Breakfast to remember that they too had a history of doing bad things in the name of religion. Charles Krauthammer's response is given in the video below:

One vivid illustration of the difference between Islam and other religions is to compare the reaction of Muslims to accusations against their religion to that of Christians or Jews. Muslims level the most atrocious accusations against Jews all the time (see Creation of Paranoia for examples) without the Jews going on murderous rampages in revenge. Muslims do worse than accuse Christians they murder Muslims who convert to Christianity. You don't see Christians going on murderous rampages of revenge for that either.
One example of Muslim reaction to criticism was their reaction to pope Benedict when he quoted the words of a Byzantine Emperor from six centuries ago. An outstanding article about this, Silence of the Sheep, was written by Yashiko Sagimori, The words were:
"Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."
Daniel Pipes wrote about the reaction to the Pope's speech as follows:
The Vatican responded by establishing an extraordinary and unprecedented security cordon around the pope. Further away, the incitement spurred some violence, with more likely on the way. Seven churches were attacked in the West Bank and Gaza, one in Basra, Iraq (prompting this ironic headline at the "RedState" blog: "Pope implies Islam a violent religion ... Muslims bomb churches"). The murder of an Italian nun in Somalia and two Assyrians in Iraq also appear connected.
Another example of Muslim reaction to criticism was their reaction to Robert Redeker, formerly a French public high school teacher who wrote in the newspaper Le Figaro in September 2006 that (French Critic of Islam Flees Threats, The New York Times, 9/29/2006 ):
Muhammad was "a merciless warlord, a looter, a mass-murderer of Jews and a polygamist." He also called the Koran "a book of incredible violence." Redeker also compared Islam unfavorably with Christianity and Judaism and criticized the hostile reaction to a recent speech by Pope Benedict XVI that seemed to link Islam and violence. Redeker wrote:
"Jesus is a master of love; Muhammad is a master of hatred. Whereas Judaism and Christianity are religions whose rites forsake violence and remove its legitimacy, Islam is a religion that, in its very sacred text, as much as in some of its everyday rites, exalts violence and hatred. Hatred and violence dwell in the very book that educates any Muslim, the Koran."
Immediately afterward, Redeker began to receive death threats by telephone, e-mail and in the Internet forum. The forum published photos of him, what it said was his home address, directions to his home and his cell phone number.
He said that his wife and their children had also been threatened with death. Asked to describe the sort of threats he had received, Redeker said: "You will never feel secure on this earth. One billion, 300,000 Muslims are ready to kill you." Among the threats was one by a contributor to Al Hesbah, an Internet forum that is said to be a conduit for messages from Al Qaeda and other jihad organizations.
"It is impossible that this day pass without the lions of France punishing him," the Hesbah contributor wrote. The contributor called on Muslims in France to follow the lead of Muhammad Bouyeri, who murdered the Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh after he made a film denouncing the plight of abused Muslim women.
"May God send some lion to cut his head," the contributor said of Redeker, who was described as a "pig."
Some Muslim apologists attempt to portray Islam as a peaceful religion and Christianity as a violent one. I read an article by Youmans in counterpunch where he wrote that Christians want war so they can bring on armageddon and the end of days which they long for. This is typical of Islamic propaganda which inverts reality and accuses others of what they are guilty of. It is more likely that it is Ahmadenijad, the leader of Iran, who wants to bring the Mahdi to the world by starting World War III.
Muslim converts to Christianity when giving their reasons for making the very dangerous decision to convert from Islam to Christianity have explained how they see the difference. Ibn Warraq wrote about this in his book Leaving Islam as follows:
But if there is a common thread running through these conversion testimonies, it is that Christianity preaches the love of Christ and God, whereas Islam is forever threatening hellfire for disobeying, and obsessively holds up the wrath of God in front of the believer. In other words, the two religions ahve two totally different conceptions of God: In the former, God is near, loving and protective, God the Father; in the latter, God is a remote, angry, tyrannical figure to be obeyed blindly. Or as one Muslim convert to Christianity was quoted as saying in a truly astonishing article that appeared in the Algerian Arabic daily El Youm in December 20000, "Christianity is life, Islam is death."
Ibn Warraq quotes the testimony of a Saudi Muslim who converted to Christianity. The Muslim said:
When I was a Muslim, I could never imagine that the Christians were right. After that, I found out how much God loves me, and I became a Christian. Yes, he loves me, he loves you, and he loves the whole world.
There are those who say that the problem is not Islam but fundamentalism. For example three days after the attack on the World Trade Center, Thomas Friedman of the New York Times wrote a column asserting, among other things, that terrorism reflects a struggle "between those Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and Jews with a modern and progressive outlook and those with a medieval one. Phil Baum of the American Jewish Congress in a letter to Time responded to similar statements by Karen Armstrong. He wrote (10/01?):
While there are extremists in Judaism and Christianity, the actions of this handful of marginal religious fanatics are almost universally repudiated by other Jews and Christians. By contrast, Islamic extremism includes thousands of adherents around the globe expressly trained and sworn to kill by leaders like Osama bin Laden.
Rabbi Shafran in an article "Confessions of a Jewish Fundamentalist" wrote that Jewish fundamentalism seeks neither material success nor world domination but rather good deeds and the study of Torah. He explained that efforts of Jewish fundamentalists to spread the faith extend only to other Jews who may lack traditional Jewish educations. "We don't evangelize other faiths or see them as unsaved," he writes. "Indeed, we consider a Christian or Muslim who observes certain basic moral precepts to merit a share in the World-to-Come.
Yashiko Sagimori in an article titled What Caused the Fall of the Roman Empire? (Freeman Center Broadcast 5/11/05) wrote:
As a matter of fact, Islam does not have a monopoly on fundamentalism. Fundamentalists exist in other religions as well. Jerry Fallwell is a fundamentalist. Pat Robertson is a fundamentalist. Menachem Mendel Schneerson was a fundamentalist. The Pope — actually, any pope — is indisputably a fundamentalist; that's his job description. Have you ever heard any one of them calling for genocide? For suicide bombings? For spreading their faith among the infidels by means of a “holy” war? If, at this point, you feel tempted to mention the Crusades, I have to remind you of two subtle differences between the Crusades and jihad. First, the Koran declares jihad a sacred duty of every Muslim, while the Bible does not even mention the Crusades. Second, can you tell me the century when the last Crusade took place? Jihad, in case you haven't noticed, is raging right now. Like you, I've heard that jihad is supposed to be a Muslim's internal strife for perfection rather than vulgar warfare. To counter this argument, it's quite enough to take one look at the abysmal squalor that in Muslim countries is called life, at the overwhelming corruption, at the social and scientific backwardness, at all those honor killings, genital mutilations, lack of basic sanitary habits, and other beauties of righteous life Taliban style. And you still believe that Islam is “just another religion”?
Raymond Ibrahim wrote in regard to the crusades:
As for Christianity, much of the Old Testament law was abrogated by Jesus. “Eye for an eye” gave way to “turn the other cheek.” Totally loving God and one’s neighbor became supreme law (Matt 22:38-40). Furthermore, Jesus’ “Sunna”—as in “What would Jesus do?”—is characterized by passivity and altruism.And it is from here that one can best appreciate the Crusades. However one interprets these wars—as offensive or defensive, just or unjust—it is plainly evident that they were not based on the teachings of the New Testament or the example of Jesus who exhorted his followers to “love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” (Matt 5:44). The Crusaders—not the jihadists—are the ones who have contradicted their religion.
The Crusades were a defensive battle to save Christians from Islamic attacks. If Raymond Ibrahim is correct that there is no imperative in the New Testament for Christians to save their brothers from being massacred that is a flaw in the New Testament in my opinion.
Daniel Pipes argues that the problem is not Islam but rather Islamism (radical Islam) and that moderate Islam is the answer. Certainly moderate Islam is better than radical Islam and from a pragmatic point of view it is important to assist the moderate Muslims who oppose the radical ones. On the other hand many Muslims who are considered "moderate" are not so moderate and Islam inherently in its core preaches intolerance and so there is always the danger that whatever moderation exists among Muslims may become radicalized by the core teachings of their religion. What causes Islamism? Pipes has said it is a form of facism. Bush sees it as a hijacking of the Islamic religion. I see it as being caused by a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam. Perhaps a better name for the Islamic problem facing the West is not Islamism but rather fundamentalist Islam. Naming the problem fundamentalist Islam is a way of acknowledging that a literal interpretation of the Koran is the problem and that the problem is not some strange fringe sect of Muslims with some bizarre interpretation of their religion that has nothing to do with the real Islam and which is simply a facist hijacking of the real peaceful Islam.
In Khaldun (d. 1406), a renowned Muslim philosopher, historian, and sociologist, explained one dangerous core difference between Islam and other religions.
In the Muslim community, the holy war is a religious duty, because of the universalism of the [Muslim] mission and [the obligation to] convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force...The other religious groups did not have a universal mission, and the holy war was not a religious duty for them, save only for purposes of defense...Islam is under obligation to gain power over other nations.
The Palestinian Authority is a model of Islamic intolerance. Currently the Palestinian Authority oppresses the Christians living under their control which has resulted in a large flight of Christians from those areas. On April 2, 2002, Palestinian terrorists took refuge in a Christian church. News reports portrayed the occupiers of the church as respectful of their surroundings. One Bethlehem priest said that he would have preferred silence to saying everything is okay He said
We are worse than cowards, we are lying.
Fear of Islamic violence leads Christians living under the Moslem yoke to deny their oppression with their tongues while they confirm it with their feet.
The ongoing conflict between Arabs and Jews in the Middle East has its roots in Islamic intolerance. Sheikh Ibrahim Madhi revealed the true Palestinian requirements for bringing peace to the Middle East when he said in a sermon broadcast on Palestinian TV in 2001 (MEMRI Special Dispatch No. 240, July 11, 2002):
We welcome, as we did in the past, any Jew who wants to live in this land as a Dhimmi, just as the Jews have lived in our countries, as Dhimmis, and have earned appreciation, and some of them have even reached the positions of counselor or minister here and there. We welcome the Jews to live as Dhimmis, but the rule in this land and in all the Muslim countries must be the rule of Allah... Those from amongst the Jews and from amongst those who are not Jews who came to this land as plunderers, must return humiliated and disrespected to their countries.
From the Arab point of view Jews who immigrated to Israel are plunderers who must be expelled and those that were there before hand can only live there if they obey Shariah and live as lower class citizens without rights who support the Muslims by paying exorbitant taxes.
